Masking Up for Community Care

Writer: Aonya Kendrick BarnettAonya Kendrick Barnett

In recent times, the rising tide of TB cases in Kansas has cast a spotlight on the precarious state of public health in the region. With the echoes of increasing cases resounding through our community, the importance of proactive health measures has never been more critical.

The call to action is clear: mask up, protect yourself, and safeguard your community. Masking is not just about health—it's a statement of resilience and self-preservation amidst challenges like ICE raids and over-surveillance. By masking up, we reclaim our autonomy and stand firm against external pressures.

Community care is essential. It involves looking out for one another, prioritizing health, and taking collective action. Although wea

ring masks may be uncomfortable for some, it is a small price to pay for the greater good of community health and freedom.

For those in need of resources, Safe Streets Wichita, Inc., in collaboration with MaskBlocICT, is working tirelessly to distribute 3M and KN95 masks to those who need them most. Additionally, the Sunflower Community Resource Network is offering workshops on making air cleaners, empowering individuals to take control of their environment.

Remember, we are stronger together. If you require masks, COVID tests, or other TB-related resources, reach out to us. Let’s continue to support one another and stay vigilant in these challenging times. Visit Safe Streets Wichita, Inc and our partners at 1200 E. Waterman, Wichita, Kansas.
